When should scaffolding be used

Scaffolding work includes erecting, altering and dismantling a temporary structure erected to support a platform and from which, a person or object could fall. Unsafe scaffolding could result in death and serious injuries to the workers. Therefore, Scaffolding work must be undertaken by a person holding the appropriate class of high-risk work license. Scaffolding is commonly used in construction work, maintenance and repair of buildings, bridges etc. so that workers have a safe, stable working platform.

Scaffolding work is also used for concert stages, viewing towers, exhibition stands, and art projects. The purpose of scaffolding is to provide a safe working platform and access suitable for work crews to carry out their work. The European Standard is the hallmark of performance requirements for working scaffolds. The standard is intended to be used as the basis for inquiry and design.
